Are you one of the those folks who sticks around
in the movie theatre after a show ends to read the numerous credits scrolling up from the bottom of the screen and wonders
what it is, exactly, that gaffers, grips and best boys do anyway on a film set? If you are one of these people who wondered
but has never had the opportunity until now to find out, this 60 minute DVD is for you.
Intended for educational use, Electric Shadow takes a behind-the-scenes
look at a number of films that Ted Rhodes has worked on over the years including Back to School, Beetlejuice,
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Dennis the Menace, Baby's Day Out, X-Files (the
movie) and a host of other films. In Electric Shadow, Ted explains the roll of the "DP" and the camera department
as well as that of the electrical and grip departments. However, because Ted spent most of his time in Hollywood working
as a Key Grip and because grip work is one of the harder crew categories to explain in detail, most of Electric Shadow
focuses on the job that grips perform on motion picture sets.
Here are two clips from Electric Shadow:

Here's a short little film (4 1/2 minutes) that I originally shot on VHS a few years ago. It features my friend, acclaimed
plein air artist Arturo Tello, on location in the field demonstrating how he and his fellow Oak Group painters contribute
their artistry to local preservation efforts. (humor)
