In May, 2010, The Huffington Post published an op ed piece I wrote regarding our recent local struggles here in Carpinteria against Venoco, Inc. and that oil company's attempt to take over our town by trying to get a local ballot measure passed that would exempt the oil company from all further local oversight.  

Saving a California Beach Town

Along with co-chair and former mayor Donna Jordan, I spearheaded this grassroots "No on Venoco's Measure J" effort.  Despite Venoco outspending us approximately by 10:1, Venoco's ballot measure lost at the ballot box on June 8 by a 70% to 30% margin.
